NMI Extends its UKCA Approval Scope to Include Exhaust Gas Analysers (EGAs)

Delft, The Netherlands — 28 June 2022.  NMi, the leading independent specialist for legal metrology testing and inspection services, has expanded its UKCA approval scope to include exhaust gas analysers (EGAs). NMi can now carry out EGA type examinations and associated manufacturing system production assessments required to meet the relevant UK regulations. NMi is the only UKCA-approved body to offer these services for EGA manufacturers.

NMi can now issue type evaluation certificates for EGAs used for mandatory annual motor vehicle checks, which are required from the third year of the vehicle’s registration. The UKCA regulatory framework has EGAs within its scope, and regulations require that conformity assessment modules B + D, B + F or H1 apply to these measuring instruments.

With the deadline to transfer to UKCA markings, including for EGAs, set for 31 December 2022, NMi encourages all EGA manufacturers, supplying into the UK market, to ensure that new instruments they supply are UKCA marked before the deadline. Additionally, UK MOT test centre operators should ensure that new EGA’s they purchase, from the deadline, are also UKCA marked.
