Importance of accuracy
Police enforcement measurement instruments, MOT measurement instruments and taximeters need to operate correctly. For example, speed meters need to measure speed accurately to make traffic safer. Particle number counters need to be able to check the exhaust from vehicles correctly on (nano)particles, and taximeters need to measure time and distance precisely in order to calculate the fare.
Whether your instruments require MID approval or compliance with national regulations, NMi’s expertise and experience in the mobility market makes us the best partner to speed up market access for manufacturers and helps end-users optimize their measurement systems. NMi guides you in the mobility market by testing certification, as well as by training and providing knowledge. NMi’s international reputation makes it easier to obtain local type approvals based on NMi test reports.
Certification of police measuring instruments
NMi conducts type examinations and initial verifications for manufacturers as well as re-verifications for the user of the measuring instruments, i.e., the police. In order to guarantee ongoing satisfaction for both manufacturers and the police service, NMi periodically certifies all police measuring instruments, such as speed meters, moped roller test benches and (alcohol) breath analysers for which we are an Issuing Authority under RMP 2022.
Particle Number Counters
In order to verify the operationality of diesel particle filters, demand for particle numbers checks in the exhausts of diesel vehicles is rising, boosting the need for instruments.
NMi took the lead in the VERT group to draft a Proposal for Particle Number Counters (2019) used. Read more.
NMi is also an ‘Issuing Authority’ for OIML R99:2008 (instruments for measuring vehicle exhaust emissions).
