NMi Becomes First European UKCA Approved Body

Delft, The Netherlands — 31 January 2022. NMi becomes the first European notified body operating in the measuring instrument sector to set up in the UK and secure an appointment as a UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) approved body. UKCA is the new UK product marking required for numerous products sold in Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland).

Our appointment as a UKCA approved body allows us to better serve current and existing customers seeking access to the UK. It also addresses the service gap created by recent announcements from NMO — the largest UKCA approved body for measuring instruments in the UK — that they will step out of providing commercial Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) services. This appointment enables us to compete and be the ‘go-to’ service provider for those former customers of NMO.”

NMi has also been appointed for the equivalent requirements in Northern Ireland (UKNI). The regulations cover most products that previously required the CE mark to enter the UK market on 1 January 2021. European manufacturers wishing to retain access to the UK market for their products must have a UKCA certification by 1 January 2023. To date, manufacturers required two separate work streams with different appointed bodies, in Europe and the UK, to obtain relevant certifications required to sell measuring instruments in both markets. Today, NMi provides its customers the opportunity to simplify that process by offering both CE and UKCA services.

NMi’s UKCA appointment allows customers to maintain a single point of contact for component instrument upgrades and product approval certificates that meet both CE and UKCA requirements.

NMi recently issued its first UKCA certificate to the Gilbarco Veeder-Root and the SK700-2 family of fuel dispensers under the UK International Standard ISO/IEC 17020:2012 legislation via its newly appointed UKCA Approved Body (8506)

The NMi UKCA Approved Body appointment and associated UKAS accreditations cover all measuring instruments regulated in Great Britain under the Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 and Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Regulations 2016. The applicable products include non-automatic and automatic weighing instruments, water meters, gas meters, electricity meters, fuel dispensers, non-water measuring systems, taximeters, length measures, capacity serving measures and exhaust gas analysers. NMi has an equivalent UKNI approved body appointment for Northern Ireland.
