New Deadlines for UKCA Mark Implementation Determined

The UKCA Mark was due to come into effect in January 2023. However, at the end of 2022, BEIS announced the government would delay this implementation date to put less burden on the industry and remove some of the risks around the potential mass of non-conforming products removal or informal allowance to remain in the market.

A summary of the changes is as follows:

• You can place instruments on the market denoted with a CE mark and utilise a EU27 type-examination certificate and a EU27 Module-D certificate until 31 December 2024.
• After 31 December 2024, the instrument must come under the UKCA marking rule. This means that the device must either bear the UKCA mark or the UKCA mark must be in accompanying documents until 31 December 2027.
• The UKCA mark can be accepted with the use of a EU27 type-examination certificate and a EU27 Module-D until 31 December 2027 or until the certificates expires.

Note that these extensions do not invalidate any products that have already secured the UKCA mark, which has been accepted since its introduction in January 2022.
