In The Netherlands the Regeling voertuigen (regulation vehicles) defines the requirements for Particle Number Counters (or Particulate Number Counters).

The requirements in regulation vehicles are based on the requirements in Proposal Particulate Number Counters drafted by the VERT group.

NMi can examine these counters and if the counter passes the examinations a national type examination certificate and/or a certificate according to the Proposal can be issued.
