NMi is an independent and impartial test, inspection and certification institution that is designated by regulation to inspect police measuring instruments. NMi attaches great importance to its independence. Skillful investigation of measuring instruments, whereby citizens can rely on the proper functioning of the measuring instruments, is important to NMi. This trust is guaranteed by NMi through accreditation of its activities, which is periodically assessed by the Dutch Accreditation Council (www.rva.nl).
Unfortunately, internet and press publications about certification and use of measuring instruments are not always complete or correct. NMi strives for public confidence in the reliability of its certifications. NMi has a duty of confidentiality with the manufacturers for the protection of the Intellectual Property of their products, which is also regulated by the accreditation requirements. The NMi statements of the measuring instruments used by the police are available on the website of the police and the website of the Central Judicial Collection Agency CJIB. Manuals for measuring instruments and regulations are also available on the website of the police and/or CJIB.
