NMi E-Mark Lead Assessor
I ensure consumer goods like food, drinks, cosmetics and cleaning products meet stringent EU standards.
The E-mark, visible on pre-packaged products, certifies that the average quantity of goods conforms to EU Directive 76/211/EEC, ensuring fairness and consumer protection. 
I spend about 50% of my time traveling to client sites, primarily visiting manufacturers and packagers of consumer goods within the Netherlands. My experience with assessing the functionality of catchweighers, filling instruments, hopper weighers, and other weighing instruments during e-mark assessments also gives me the opportunity to diversify my work load by providing MID and NAWID audits for the NMi weighing team. Often, this takes me to international manufacturers for audits of both automatic and non-automatic weighing machines.

Here’s what a day in the field as an NMi e-mark Lead Assessor looks like.
‘Start of the day’
On-site Assessment
I start off the day with a review of my itinerary and an overview of the facility's previous audit outcomes, equipment specifics, and any compliance issues. Traveling to the site, I mentally prepare for the day's evaluations. Upon arrival, I meet with the facility's quality manager to outline our objectives and discuss any recent updates or changes in their production processes that could impact compliance. This meeting sets the stage for a thorough assessment.
I then tour the production floor, observing the operation of filling stations and weighing instruments. I assess the setup and environmental factors like vibration or airflow that could impact measurement accuracy and speak with production line employees. Typically, evaluations run between 3 – 5 hours, but this may extend depending on the number of production lines at the site.

Feedback and Consultation
After completing my assessment, I analyse my findings and compile preliminary feedback for the site's management team. This crucial session addresses immediate concerns and explores potential improvements or adjustments needed to enhance compliance and operational efficiency. My feedback often includes recommendations on instrument maintenance, calibration schedules, and quality assurance best practices.

Documentation and Development
Back at the office, I draft my official audit report, detailing my observations and interactions with the facility staff. Once my documentation is complete, I plan future assessments and catch up on communications. I also consult with fellow NMi Lead Assessors and Approval Experts, discussing the latest in legal metrology to ensure I remain up to date and informed in my field.
