NMi and Korean Testing and Research Institute Collaborate to Advance Global EV Infrastructure

04 April 2024

Delft, The Netherlands & Gwacheon-si, Republic of Korea, 04 April 2024 — In a move set to elevate the standard of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers globally, the Korea Testing and Research Institute (KTR) and NMi Certin B.V. (NMi) have sealed a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration aims to streamline the acquisition of essential type approvals for EV chargers, catering particularly to the stringent requirements of the MessEV certification, CE MID, and OIML standards.

KTR, a distinguished testing laboratory and certification body in the Republic of Korea, and NMi, a premier designated body for conformity assessment based in the Netherlands, will combine their expertise to help South Korean companies secure MessEV approval. This accreditation, mandatory for exporting EV chargers to Germany, ensures compliance with CE standards and guarantees heightened measurement accuracy and structural safety.

Under the terms of the MoU, EV charger manufacturers can now access streamlined approval processes through KTR, enabling seamless entry into the German market. The partnership doesn’t stop at approvals; it extends to collaborative efforts such as technical exchange programs and joint seminars to advance industry standards and foster innovation.

President Kim Hyun Cheol of KTR expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Our partnership with NMi marks a significant step towards ensuring the quality and safety of EV chargers, vital for meeting global market demands, particularly in Europe.”

Lars Cornax, Commercial Director at NMi Certin B.V., echoed this sentiment: “This collaboration underscores our dedication to fostering excellence in the EV charging sector. By leveraging our collective strengths, we aim to facilitate the entry of high-quality EV chargers into international markets, adhering to the highest standards.”

This strategic alliance signifies a milestone in promoting sustainable mobility solutions and strengthening ties between Korea and the EU. For further information, please contact:
