Approval Expert

I am working at the product certification department in the subgroup weighing.

My daily work consists of performing the tests and checks required to determine if a weighing instrument meets the required criteria of the relevant regulations and I make the certificate after which the manufacturer is able to enter the market. These activities take place in our weighing lab in Delft and sometimes the tests are performed at the customers facilities abroad. When you work with high end customers who keep developing new innovative techniques, the legal regulations are always lagging behind, this asks for leadership and creative thinking. NMi is known to take this role. Being part of NMi and cooperate with the customer to come to the best solutions is what makes my work valuable and fun!

Fun place to work

A day in my NMi life!

This is what a day in my job at NMi looks like.

‘Start of the day’

Fresh and good!

When I arrive at the office I start with going through my email box, I answer some emails and then I prepare myself for my first meeting. This morning a meeting with a new customer is scheduled. He has made a Point of sale instrument that can be used together with a weighing instrument. It is the first evaluation meeting so he brought some equipment and gives a demonstration of the system he made. We talk about how the guides Welmec 2.2 and 2.3 should be interpreted for his system, some corrections in the software have to be made that will be checked during the second follow-up meeting and I inform him about the difference between an Evaluation certificate and a Parts certificate.

‘Halfway through the day’

Let's go!

After lunch I have some tests in the laboratory to do. A temperature test for a load cell of 5000 kg must be performed. The load cell must be built into our semi-deadweight instrument. I perform a pretest to determine if the results are within the error limits. The results look good so I can start the full measurement cycle. For another instrument a checklist OIML R76 has to be performed. This is a table top scale that has an internal printer and can be used as a self-service weighing instrument. This is a regular customer of us with a lot of experience so I do not find a lot of issues with the instrument.

'Always close the day positive!'

Succesful

In the afternoon I have a conference call with one of our key accounts. He is in preparation of a new instrument that is able to connect to any mobile device for indication and is able to store measurement data in the cloud. He is interested which regulations and requirements should be taken into account for this kind of instrument. We discuss some relevant requirements in Welmec 7.2 for Software and we make a first setup for the tests that have to be performed when this instrument is ready.
